Plum is the code name for Scottish songwriter and producer, Shona Maguire. Shona grew up in a 150 year old house in rural Aberdeenshire, before moving to Peebles in the Scottish Borders. Undertaking work experience at Split-Level Studios from age 15-19, she was keen to learn studio engineering and recording. Frustrated by being unable to communicate her creative ideas exactly as she wanted, Plum undertook a Music Production course at Point Blank in London (2006). By the completion of her music production course she had already been signed to American label Summer Rain Recordings, releasing "The Whispering Chamber" (2007) and "The Glory Feast" (2008). Upon returning to Scotland, Plum quickly established herself as a notable force in the Scottish electronic music scene and was snapped up by prestigious label Benbecula Records as the only female artist in their 11 year history, releasing critically acclaimed album Different Skin in 2009.
The Seed (out April 2012) is her most recent work, a carefully crafted concept album around 'the seed of an idea'. Shona moved to a cottage deep in the heart of the Scottish Borders for 12 months to write the album.

Plum is a Scottish electronic female solo artist making really gorgeous beats. She uses a heap of kit live and won Best Electronic Act in the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (March 2013), beating Chvrches, Discopolis and Roman Nose (all of whom you should check out if you like this). There's an amazing music scene in Scotland.

What happens when the seed of an idea is planted? If we sleep on it, will it grow beyond our control? Once a box is open can the contents ever fully be put back inside?

Plum “You feat. Ben Phaze”
Music video was directed and animated by Jiamin Liu. The single is the first release from Plum’s first album “Different Skin” which debuted on October 19th 2009 on much loved Scottish cult label Benbecula Records.
The dark fairytale-like animation revolves around that familiar ache of unrequited love, and portrays Plum (aka Shona Maguire), wandering through her world in search of the one who has captured her heart. She falls into his world, and watches him from afar, but he is unaware of her existence.
She dreams of him coming to her and holding her hand, but it is only in her head, and she is left alone in her longing. The animation uses layers of charcoal backgrounds, puppet-like animations of Plum and the shadow figure who has her attention, and bold colours to paint the beautiful tale.
